Collaborative Vision
Marin Climate Justice Collaborative (MCJC) works to ensure a safe and equitable future for low-income residents and communities of color in Marin County who are at risk of displacement from climate change and development by building capacity and leadership for equal protection and climate resilience. Impacted first and worst by climate change, the communities in the Canal District of San Rafael and unincorporated Marin City have a shared history of underinvestment and are at severe risk from sea level rise and flooding. MCJC works to transform the local decision-making dynamic by educating, empowering, and activating residents to drive placemaking and planning projects that build climate resilience, with a goal of leveraging this power for more effective and generous collaboration. MCJC looks forward to achieving climate justice for Marin County’s most vulnerable communities.
Project Plans
With this grant funding, MCJC will build on existing positive relationships between partners and with local government to better align plans, engage community resident more meaningfully, and develop prioritized projects that can be implemented.
Central to this effort will be the creation of Health Neighborhood Plans for each community, focusing on infrastructure and green development,and incorporating priorities around housing, access to parks and public facilities, and climate resilience. The collaborative will engage residents to develop community rooted solutions allowing locals government partners and other NGOs to invest resources in manner that is equitable and culturally appropriate.
